KALMAR
Kalmar – the town on the shore of Kalmar Strait, called ‘the key to Sweden’. A former frontier fortress.
KALMAR CASTLE
Place where a treaty called The Kalmar Union between Sweden, Norway and Denmark was signed in 1397. The ‘Kingdom of Three Crowns’ was established as a result of a political plan of The Queen of Denmark – Margaret I. It was the most powerful alliance in Northern Europe then. Three countries were formally independent but it was Denmark in fact that played the first fiddle. The Union lasted over 120 years but particular interests of allies effected in many internal conflicts being the reason that the alliance was often only on paper.

KALMAR – THE KINGDOM OF CRYSTAL – KARLSKRONA

- sightseeing of a glass factory and glass blowing workshops

- sightseeing of the Moose Park and the exhibition, meeting with moose

Swedish glass factories produce not only utility glass but also high quality art glass famous for unconventional design. Glass from Kosta or Orrefors is known all over the world. Their showrooms are located at the most up-market streets in Europe and America.

MOOSE
is the biggest mammal of the Scandinavian Peninsula. A moose can be more than 2 meters tall and weigh even 750 kg. Every autumn males shed antlers after mating season. The antlers can spread to 2 m and weigh even 20 kg!
