ÅLESUND
Harbour town nicely situated on a peninsula and several islands on Norwegian Sea where some of the fjords of the region Møre og Romsdal meet. This is a really exceptional town in Norway because of the dominating Art Nouveau architecture. The new style occurred here after the fire that completely devastated the town in 1904. The reconstruction of the city centre started shortly afterwards thanks to help offered by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany who had often been on holidays to the surrounding Sunnmøre region.

FJÆRLAND – NORWEGIAN CAPITAL OF BOOKS
⋅
Norwegian capital of books. One of the most beautiful villages in the region as well as one of the most authentic and unspoiled by modernity. Fjærland was the last one in vicinity connected to the road network (in 1994). Old wooden houses by Fjærlandsfjorden with mountains in the background contribute to the unforgettable scenery. It is not the only attraction of the village. Fjærland is considered the capital of books in Norway because of an unusual accumulation of bookshops and used book sellers. Quite a surprising attraction are self-serviced unattended book stands where buyers have an opportunity of selecting books and settling the payment to a tin box which is placed on the stand.

The capital of fjords and Norway’s second largest city. Bergen used to be Hansa’s northernmost harbour. The city is surrounded by seven hills and numerous fjords with smaller or bigger rocky islands.
